“We Are The World 25″ relief for Haiti

Sunday, February 21 2010- I came across a cool post featured on SoulBounce.com this weekend, blasting a few out of place celebs feature don the Remake of “We Are The World- 25 For Haiti”. I think the article is was pretty accurate, hilarious and wish the list went up t to 20, because there were a couple of MISSES on that list. it’s a damn shame that you get a PASS to everything just because you’re a celebrity. smDh. As in:

1. Busta Rhymes. Where’d you come from, When? and WHY are you dancing SO hard?!

2. 3T. Finally came out of Hiding to lend their lack luster vocals and are still rocking Extensions a-la 94′

3. Vince Vaughn. WTF?! — Like his Funny Man Sidekick, Will Ferell, and fellow Actor Jeff Bridges (who was in attendance) Vince Vaughn CAN actually hold a tune, but just like Kat McPhee is presence was NOT needed.

4. Miley Cirus. OUCH! My ears are bleeding

5. Julianne Huff. I prefer the Cha-Cha on Dancing with the Stars, dear

6. Swizz Beats. oh STOPPIT!

7. Randy Jackson. stick to production

8. Fonzworth Bentley. WTF?!

oh…the list GOES ON.

In the mean time let’s  see what Soul Bounce has to say. Be sure to read the rest at soulbounce.com

Now that we’ve had a week to marinate on “We Are The World 25,” we here at SoulBounce still have the same reaction now that we had when it premiered last Friday and are in agreement that despite the best of intentions, this was an EPIC FAIL. We happen to agree with Jay-Z that “We Are The World” is something that should have never been touched. Ever. We really don’t know what Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie were thinking when they had this bright idea to remake this classic as opposed to creating a new song just for Haiti, but it was a mess. Yes, there were moments of brilliance (Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, P!nk, Mary Mary), but by and far, the vast majority of featured participants on this remake should have never been allowed in the studio much less on the mic. There was a gross misuse of the talent on hand (Anthony Hamilton, India.Arie, Faith Evans) who were relegated to singing in the chorus, while more mainstream artists were allowed to have their way with this song. To say that we’re displeased with how this turned out, would be an understatement. See our rundown of 12 artists who we could have done without hearing or seeing on “We Are The World 25″ in their order of appearance after the bounce, and please continue to donate to Haitian relief efforts but not buy purchasing this tragedy of a song.

[Un] HAPPY FASHION WEEK

Alexander McQueen Dead at 40

Thursday February 11th, 2010

What a way to kick off Fashion Week, huh? As I stretch and sing good morning to the melting snow of yesterday’s blizzard, and think of my most Fashionable All Black Everything, for tonight’s backstage stint at the GQ Menswear Designer of the Year Fashion Show, the breaking news of 1 of the fashion industry’s most respected designers has sent shock waves through NYC and Fashonistas everywhere.

Alexander McQueen, one of fashion’s consummate inconoclasts and showmen, has committed suicide at age 40, a spokeswoman confirmed.

“Mr. McQueen has been found dead at his house this morning,” she said, declining further comment.

A statement from PPR, parent of Gucci Group and the McQueen company, is expected shortly. Circumstances of his death were not revealed and a spokesman declined comment. McQueen’s mother recently died and the designer was known to be extremely close to her, although it could not be learned whether this contributed to his death.

McQueen burst onto the London fashion scene with a mix of aggression, energy and creativity that reinvigorated the city’s reputation and made his shows the hottest ticket in town.

For further coverage, check back with WWD.COM throughout the day.

Dominica Steps up

Friday January 15th, 2010 — I’d just like to state that before I’m a Brooklyn Diva, I am a Dominican FIRST.  For the past few years the Nature Island of  the Caribbean, Dominica  and fellow french sister island to Haiti has been the refuge, new home-town or “stop-off point” to many Haitian people displaced after a few tragic Hurricanes several  years back.  I am proud to hear that several companies and locals throughout the country has donated a substantial amount of money to the Haitian people. Also granting illegal Haitian nationals a 6 month anti-deportation extension.
